Personal Development Learning

The personal development of our pupils is crucial to our vision and is an integral part of many aspects to school life. Through personal development learning we aim to build resilient learners and to help children deal with real life issues which they face as they grow up and are central to their wellbeing.

01

Commando Joe's

We use the Commando Joe’s programme to develop pupils’ character, support and promote SMSC, British values, health and wellbeing, teamwork and leadership. The programme inspires pupils to rise to the challenge, strive for excellence and develop resilience, empathy and a passion for learning and it’s goal is to engage even the most reluctant learners.

02

Outdoor Education

Making the most of our award-winning outdoor environment is important to us at Edith Cavell so we employ two dedicated Outdoor Learning staff. Through Outdoor Learning we discover, experiment, learn about and connect to the natural world, engage in adventure activities and outdoor sports.

03

Life Learning

Our Life Learning curriculum includes the statutory RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) and it’s enhanced content has been developed in consultation with the wider stakeholders of the school, including parents. Further details can be found on our policies page.

04

Thrive

We have trained Thrive® practitioners in school. Thrive® promotes children’s positive mental health by helping adults know how to be and what to do in response to their differing and sometimes distressed behaviour.

05

50 Fun Experiences

One of our school values is ‘We enrich our learning with fun experiences’ and in consultation with parents, children, staff and governors we have created a list of 50, some of which are designed to promote aspiration, others to offer experiences that otherwise children may not have had.

06

My Happy Mind

This whole school approach aims to create a culture of positive wellbeing. It is an NHS backed programme for teachers, parents and children to prepare today’s children for tomorrow’s world by building resilient, balanced and happy minds. It combines the latest research, science and technology to help children develop lifelong habits to help them learn and thrive.
